2020 HOBY and Students of the Year
2020 HOBY Ambassador
During the fall semester, Catholic High selects one sophomore to represent the school at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar held each year in Hammond. This organization is one of the oldest and most prominent youth leadership organizations in the world. Since 1958, more than 375,000 students have attended HOBY’s Leadership Seminars. Every year our students come back with wonderful stories about meeting different people and learning more about themselves as leaders.
To apply for this award, we ask interested students to submit a 200-word essay describing the most rewarding and challenging aspects about being a leader at Catholic High and in the community. We then interview all sophomores who have applied. Naturally it is hard to select when we have so many worthy students.
We are excited to announce that our HOBY Ambassador this year will be Cohen Begnaud.
2020 Students of the Year
In September we began the process of selecting the CHS Students of the Year for 5th, 8th and 12th grades. Since the initial announcement of our candidates in September the nominees have been busy preparing portfolios of their accomplishments. They were interviewed by faculty. For some, the portfolio was much easier than talking about themselves in the interview! Each of the nominees did a fantastic job of presenting their finer points in the portfolio and during the interviews. But, as with many things, we can only select 1 representative from each grade. We are very excited to announce that the following students have been named our CHS Students of the Year and will move on to the diocesan level of competition.
Our 5th grade Student of the Year is Gunnar Ditch.
Our 8th grade Student of the Year is Audrey Romero.
Our 12th grade Student of the Year is Thomas Morris.
