Closing the School Year

Dear Catholic High parents,

It is hard to believe that summer is here and we are making preparations for summer activities and the beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year.  Looking back over the last nine weeks, I know that Friday, March 13, 2020 will be cemented in our memory forever and I can honestly say that we have gotten through it TOGETHER!  There is not a single member of our school family who does not have a share in the credit for our countless successes during this unprecedented time.  We have finished strong and united, not missing a single instructional day, and finding several ways to help our families who have been affected in the most pointed ways by the pandemic.

Textbook turn-in went very well, thanks to the cooperation of our families in keeping their appointments and adhering to health and safety guidelines. Our make-up day is set for Wednesday, May 27, 2020, from 8:00 am until 9:00 am. Any items not turned in by 9:00 am Wednesday will be charged to the family tuition account. Students must report to their building-level administrative assistant (Mrs. Ronilaine, Mrs. Paula, and Mrs. Tina) at the front of the 100 hall, 400 hall, or 500 hall while parents remain in their vehicles. Masks are required, and students will be provided with hand sanitizer before entering.

As we close the academic year and prepare for summer, there are some things listed below to which I would like to call your attention. Please remember that more inclusive lists may be found at any time on our school website at www.chspanthers.com.

  1. Final Report Cards are now available for viewing on FACTS Family Portal (formerly ParentsWeb). Please download and/or print your copies now! They will only be available for the next two weeks, until we roll over to the new school year.

  2. Summer will be a little different this year for our camps. Some camps are being canceled or postponed to later dates, while others are being adjusted to allow for appropriate health and safety guidelines. Offerings are available on our website.

  3. Summer Reading Lists for all students entering grades 5-12 are posted on our website. Students received a little extra prep work for this during the last week of distance learning!

  4. All high school students who are enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year should receive a course listing next week. For all students in grades 6-8, notices of Honors placement will be sent on or before May 31. All student schedules will be released online via RenWeb during the last week of July.

  5. The 2020 – 2021 Important Dates calendar, including the dates of orientation and the start of school, is posted on our website.

  6. We will again provide an internal school supply service for grades 4-8. This will allow you to preorder your school supplies through the school and have them delivered to your child’s classroom for the first day of school. More information will be sent by Coach Erin Robison in email and posted on our school website as soon as it is finalized.

  7. There is a recently announced benefit that is available to any student who currently receives Free/Reduced Lunch.  It is an additional $285 per child (one time) benefit on top of any other SNAP or EBT benefits they receive. Each family must apply on their own.  Below is a link to an informational flier that was provided by the LDOE.  In this flier is also a link to the registration portal.  Let me know if we can be of any further assistance! https://www.louisianabelieves.com/docs/default-source/covid-19-resources/louisiana-p-ebt-information-and-application.pdf

  8. We are working to reschedule spring events such as academic awards for grades 4-11, eighth grade closing mass, and junior commissioning. Notices will be sent as soon as that information is finalized.

  9. The Catholic High Swap Shop will be open during business office hours this summer through June 4.  It will reopen July 20.  Please contact Mrs. April Dugas (adugas@chspanthers.com) for any swap shop needs between those dates.

  10. Due to social distancing requirements of ACT, the state of Louisiana, and the Diocese of Lafayette, Catholic High will not be administering the June ACT.  Please see this post for more details on dates and locations.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

Go Big Red!

Stella J. Arabie, Ed.D.
