Distance Learning Plan

At Catholic High, we are fortunate to be in a position where distance learning can and will continue!  Our focus will be on continued learning and communication via email, RenWeb, Google Classroom, etc. Our Chromebook programs have prepared all students and teachers for online work and will be leveraged for learning to continue at home. (Note–Go Guardian restrictions and notifications will still be in place for monitoring and preventing access to inappropriate content). 

Please recognize that this is a PLAN. Our teachers have made concerted efforts over the last two days to plan together to set reasonable expectations for their students. That being said, we are dealing with an unprecedented situation.  The plan may need to be adjusted once we get going and see how things work, and we are prepared to be flexible.

While we are confident that our students have the foundational skills and knowledge to meet these expectations, we know there may be unforeseen hardships and obstacles. COMMUNICATE with your teachers. If you have questions or concerns, email them. They want the best for ALL students and are striving to provide realistic learning experiences and expectations to that end.

Student Expectations
  • It is expected that students will complete assignments for ALL classes during this distance-learning experience in order to meet the requirements of instruction.
  • Students will be held accountable for work during this time – content addressed as part of distance-learning is applied to unit competencies upon returning to regular schedule.
  • Students at all grade levels are expected to log in at 8:30 AM to view assignments, and complete them in a timely fashion.  Attendance will be taken in this way.
  • All students (and/or parents depending on the grade level) should contact the teacher via email questions or concerns regarding assignments. Teachers should remain available throughout the school day (until 2:30 pm).

Teacher Expectations

All teachers will post detailed lesson plans in RenWeb by Sunday at 6:00 pm as usual.  They will also send out weekly detailed lesson plan documents to both students and parents.  As per our standing policy, teachers will have active communication with parents and students. Teachers must be in daily communication with BOTH parents and students at all levels, this is part of our contractual responsibilities.

**During student contact time, teachers must respond within an hour to students and parents. They must be available to facilitate discussions and guide students in completion of assignments.

Parent Expectations
  • Support your student, but allow them to do their own work.
  • Encourage self-advocacy. Students can contact their teachers directly via email with questions.
  • Report absences via email to your building level administrative assistant (Mrs. Paula for elementary, Mrs. Tina for middle, and Mrs. Ronilaine for high school) as you normally would.
  • Adhere to the Parent Cooperation Statement in the handbook.
  • If you have questions or concerns, please ASK. We are all in this together, and we want to work WITH you. Social media “venting” is not a way to solve problems, but it can be a way to destroy working relationships. We have worked hard to create reasonable expectations for learners, but we know reality may look different from even the most carefully laid plans.
Non-Teaching Personnel

During regular business hours, non-teaching personnel will respond to voicemails & emails within an hour. They will check their voicemail remotely and use Google Hangouts Meet to return phone calls and meet with other staff as needed.

Through Wednesday, March 18, all building-based Administrative Assistants will report to their buildings to answer phone calls and emails related to the closure. Beginning on Thursday, March 19, personnel are expected to work remotely from home during their contractual time.  As per normal procedure, Administrative Assistants will serve as attendance clerks. Daily communication with parents will be utilized for any students who do not log into designated student accounts within 24 hours.

Tech Help

All students will be required to log into previously established online platforms for each class, such as Google Classroom, Moodle, and RenWeb. These platforms can be accessed through any device with a browser, including Chromebooks, laptops, desktops, PlayStations, XBoxes, tablets, and smartphones. In addition, several Internet service providers are offering free and/or low cost Internet access due to this situation. These include:

Students in need of technical support can email it@chspanthers.com to create a help desk ticket for remote support items such as trouble logging in.

Student Services


Continue providing support to students, families, and staff members in the event of a health-related school closure regarding our most vulnerable population of students.

The Catholic High Guidance Department will continue to provide a full array of services via email and Google Hangouts or Meet.  All ISN students (or their parents) should contact Mr. Mike Judice (mjudice@chspanthers.com) with any questions or special learning needs during this time.

In the interest of safety and protecting patrons and staff from the spread of COVID-19, all branches of Iberia Parish Library will be closed to the public. Library staff will be available for assistance through call-in questions, online via the website, social media accounts, and email along with the text-a-librarian service. The text-a-librarian service can be accessed by texting AskIPL to 66746, message and data rates do apply.

Library staff can be reached Monday – Friday via phone and email at the following times:
Main Library: 8:30 AM – 5 PM
Coteau Branch: 1 PM – 5 PM
All other branch locations: 9 AM – 6 PM

We urge the public to utilize the free online eResources available through the library’s website. Almost all online resources can be accessed from home with your Iberia Parish Library card. For eBook and audiobook checkouts, please visit Overdrive and/or the Libby app. Students have access to educational online databases and websites like Vidcode, where they can learn the basics of coding and computer science. To stay up-to-date on local, regional and national news, the library provides access to Newsbank online as well. For a full list of eResources please visit iberialibrary.org/eresources. If you have questions regarding these online resources, please do not hesitate to contact the library.

Any late fees or fines incurred from this point until further notice will be waived, however previously incurred fines still stand. Patrons will still be held accountable for any books lost or damaged.

Food Services

The cafeteria located on the Catholic High campus will be closed during this time.  Instead, all CHS students will have access to meals provided by the Iberia Parish School Board.  Please use this link to access detailed information regarding locations and pick up sites.
