Louisiana History Students Enjoy Tasty Treats
As Louisiana entered the twentieth century, the most successful development came in the expansion of rice cultivation throughout southwest Louisiana. Middle school students were required to bring in a recipe and sample of a family favorite dish that contained rice. As a group, students discussed the origins of the dishes and whether they had any cultural values that were tied to their families. Students even had a visitor, Mrs. Thipp Evans, stop by to help explain the process of cooking Sticky Rice and the cultural heritage associated with her family. Overall, students had a great time experiencing a variety of rice dishes and spending quality time together.
