10th Annual NSU Louisiana High School Essay Contest
This year the Louisiana Folklife Center at Northwestern State University will be sponsoring the 10th annual NSU Louisiana High School Essay Contest. Students wishing to enter the contest will address the prompt: “Once Upon a Time in Louisiana.” Details about the essay prompt can be found on the accompanying call for essays. The essay contest is open to all Louisiana students
in grades 9-12.
In addition to the three winners being awarded cash prizes and a $200/per semester NSU scholarship with a value up to $1600 if they attend NSU for four years (this award is in addition to other scholarship awards that the student may receive from Northwestern State University), the three winning essays will be published in the Louisiana Folklife Journal, an academic journal
produced by the Louisiana Folklife Center. Contest winners will also be invited to present their essay at the 10th annual Louisiana Studies Conference held in Natchitoches, Louisiana on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
