Making Up Academic Time
Dear Catholic High Families,
It is hard to believe that we have missed ten school days thus far this year, and almost half of the year lies ahead of us. I know the big question on everyone’s mind is where or how we will make up these days?
There are state and diocesan attendance guidelines that we must meet. Those guidelines are stated in instructional minutes, and we will make sure that we are meeting all requirements. We have already obtained the superintendent’s approval to not make up anything for the first six days missed.
We will make a few adjustments to activities and assemblies that take our students out of the classroom. At the suggestion of our Chancellor, we will drop the all-school mass on Thursday, January 25, and one other, to be determined at a later date. Remember, we do have the opportunity to attend mass every Tuesday morning at 7:15. Our seniors will not go to St. Edward this coming Friday. That activity will be replaced later this spring with something that will have seniors back on campus by 8:30.
In addition, the following calendar adjustments will be made effective immediately:
Tuesday, February 20, 2018—Progress Reports will be moved to this date following the Mardi Gras break. No adjustments will be made to the end of the third quarter.
Monday, March 5, 2018—This was to be a SACS inservice and workday for teachers. It will now be a regular full day of school for students.
Friday, May 18, 2018—(Formerly Dead Day) This will be a full day of school.
Monday, May 21, 2018—This will be our Dead Day with a full day of school.
Tuesday, May 22, 2018—Exams 6 and 7
Wednesday, May 23, 2018—Exams 4 and 5
Thursday, May 24, 2018—Exams 2 and 3
Friday, May 25, 2018—Exam 1
I do believe that these adjustments will satisfy the spirit and the requirements of existing needs and policies. If we lose any additional scheduled days of school, I do intend to propose a full make up day for each day lost. We look forward to a very productive school experience for all CHS students.
