CHS Middle School Lenten Almsgiving 2018
“Books and Baskets”
Middle School students have taken part in a Lenten almsgiving project entitled “Baskets and Books in Memory of Blake Dartez” since 2008. This project reaches out to children in New Iberia who are less fortunate, by gifting them with special Easter baskets. The project is optional and no one is obligated to participate, yet each year we have seen a tremendous outpouring of support from our Catholic High families.
The goals of this project are to bring a little faith, hope, love and educational encouragement to the recipients. Easter baskets include the typical goodies along with at least 2 books, one of which is religious/Christian in nature. The 150+ baskets made by Middle Schoolers will be delivered to children who live in Section 8 Housing (Bacmonila Garden Apartments off of Frederick St.) on the morning of Good Friday, March 30th.
Please pray for this mission as we share prayer, gifts and care. In doing so we recognize the very important Catholic Social teachings of: solidarity, care for God’s creation, care for the poor, responsibility, community and the dignity of all humans. By practicing these teachings in a joyful manner we express true discipleship to our Lord. Students, you give hope for the future
through your enthusiasm, generosity and innate goodness. Parents, thank you for the continual support! Wishing you all a blessed Lenten season.
