We are so excited to be continuing an impactful event at Catholic High School in New Iberia on April 21st!

The theme for this year’s fundraiser is “Sleep in a Box – Around the World.” CHS’s Student Council has decided to help the homeless in our community as well as the homeless in another part of the world. Proceeds will benefit the New Iberia Men’s Homeless Shelter, and Encontrandome Con Cristo, a Guatemalan Mission close to the hearts of Catholic High School students. Any high school student who wants to participate pays “rent” of $25 to sleep like a homeless person in a cardboard box on the football field for a night. Not only does this raise money for the needy, but it allows our students to experience one night in the life of the less fortunate while having fun with their friends.

It will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 21st and end at 6:00 a.m. the next morning. The night will start with box setup in Boys Hemisphere and Girls Hemisphere (the end zones out to the 30-yard lines on the field). After set-up, opening ceremonies will be held, which guests are welcome to attend. After opening ceremonies, all guests will be asked to leave. Games will begin at 9:00 p.m. and will last until 3:00 in the morning. They will include a ping pong tournament, pajama contest, a midnight mass, late-night aerobics, and much more. Students can participate in any of these games, watch from the sidelines, play on the fun jump, or sleep in their boxes. There will even be a contest for the best decorated boxes!

Beginning at 3:00 a.m. students will be required to spend two hours in their boxes. This gives them time to reflect on what it would be like to actually live like this every day, as well as to try to sleep. They will be woken up at 5:30 AM for a sunrise prayer service, be given breakfast, and will then go home.

In order to put on such a big event and give all of the money our students raise to the homeless shelter and Guatemalan mission, we need help from our community. We are asking for any possible donations to make the night feasible. Your donation would help to pay for the dinner, activities, games, and prizes for these generous students throughout the night. The more things we can get donated, the more student-generated money can be donated to the Center. If you decide to participate, your company’s name will be mentioned in opening ceremonies and advertised with a big banner set up on the football field. If you cannot donate at this time, we ask that you keep our school community in your prayers, as we will do for you. On behalf of the Catholic High School student council, thank you for any contribution you are able to make!

Please contact Alix Stelly (, CHS Student Council Moderator, if you would like to donate.
